Highly Decorated Tri-State Soldier Killed By Explosive POSTED: 4:45 pm EDT April 10, 2006 UPDATED: 8:11 am EDT April 11, 2006 CINCINNATI -- A local soldier serving in Iraq was killed by an explosive Sunday, officials said. Sgt. 1st Class Gregory S. Rogers, 43, was in Ar Ramadi, about 100 kilometers east of Baghdad, when an improvised explosive device hit his convoy, according to a military news release. Rogers was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky. He was on his third tour of duty in Iraq and was set to retire when he returned home. He received dozens of service medals during his 22-year Army career, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. Rogers is survived by his daughters -- Whitney, of Coraopolis, Pa., and Chelsea, of Ravenna, Ohio -- as well as his parents, Luther and Donna, of West Chester, Ohio www.channelcincinnati.com/news/8601489/detail.html
