Alana Gwinner
FAIRFIELD - Responding to rumors that the body of Alana ''Laney'' Gwinner was in Fairfield's Joyce Park, police from three agencies spent more than half of Wednesday searching in vain, Fairfield Police Sgt. Ed Roberts said Friday. The 23-year-old Union Township woman has been missing since Dec. 10.
''We got lots of calls,'' he said about the false reports. ''We did a search down there (Joyce Park).''
Ms. Gwinner was last seen leaving Gilmore Lanes on Dixie Highway-Ohio 4 in Fairfield.
Her black Honda Civic del Sol, bearing license tag AKP 3607, is also missing.
Investigators said she left Gilmore Lanes after shooting pool and phoning a boyfriend to tell him she was leaving for his nearby apartment. She never arrived.
Sgt. Roberts said he and his colleagues have begun to question people who were in Gilmore Lanes the night of her disappearance a second time.
''We have started, but we haven't talked to all of them,'' he said.
Sgt. Roberts said there have been no new leads. ''I wish there were,'' he said.
Anyone with any information about the missing woman is asked to call Fairfield police at 867-6030.
John Gwinner, Laney's father, said Friday the family hasn't turned up anything new about her disappearance.
''There hasn't been a thing,'' he said. ''We have heard no word from anybody.''
Mr. Gwinner said he doesn't believe Laney left the bowling lanes on her own. ''I know she didn't leave on her own free will. I know that for sure.''
At the time of her disappearance, Laney lived at home with her brother and her parents, Sandra and John.
J.W. Harris Co. of Blue Ash created a reward fund because Laney's brother, David, 28, works for the firm. Mr. Gwinner said the $25,000 reward fund has not turned up any useful information.
''We got a couple of crank calls, but nothing solid,'' he said.
